The Real Madrid star reached a pair of goalscoring landmarks with his opener against Malaga as he led his team closer to a league title

When Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in Sunday's La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Malaga, the Portuguese star not only pushed his team closer to a domestic title, but he hit a pair of personal milestones in the process.

The goal, scored in the second minute, allowed the 32-year-old to match rival Lionel Messi's phenomal yearly output over nearly a decade.

The Catalan club forward has been in excellent form this campaign, and currently has 15 more goals than Ronaldo in La Liga – leading his rival for the first time in the past four seasons.

Messi's teammate, Luis Suarez, is also near the top of the scoring charts, with names such as Iago Aspas and Antoine Griezmann also featuring in the list.

According to Transfermarkt, Los Blancos forward Alvaro Morata is also among the top 10 scorers in La Liga, despite only featuring in 24 league matches this season.
